The Match runs on a fixed annual rhythm. Here's the shape of a typical cycle — exact dates shift slightly each year, so always confirm current dates on nrmp.org and the official ERAS site.

Spring
Register & request your MyERAS token
IMGs register for ERAS through ECFMG and receive a token to activate their MyERAS account. This is the earliest step worth having sorted before the application season ramps up.

Early summer
MyERAS opens for application prep
The MyERAS application opens for applicants to begin building their application — CV, personal statement, experiences, and documents — ahead of submission.

Early-to-mid fall
Applications submitted to programs
Applicants submit their program list through MyERAS. Programs begin reviewing applications and extending interview invitations soon after.

Fall through January
Interview season
Most interviews happen in this window, virtual or in-person depending on the program. This is where a focused prep strategy — not just showing up — makes the biggest difference.

Winter
NRMP registration & Rank Order List opens
Applicants register with NRMP and begin building their Rank Order List (ROL) — the ranked list of programs that drives the Match algorithm.

Late winter
Rank Order List certification deadline
Your ROL must be certified by the NRMP deadline. Once certified, it's final unless you make changes before the deadline closes.

Match Week — Monday
Match results released
You learn whether you matched. If you didn't match (or only partially matched), the SOAP process opens the same day for eligible applicants to apply to unfilled positions.

Match Day
You learn exactly where you matched. For applicants who went through SOAP, placements are typically finalized earlier in the week.
