The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) runs the algorithm that pairs applicants with residency programs based on both parties' ranked preferences. Applicants submit a Rank Order List, programs rank their preferred candidates, and the algorithm produces the Match.

The Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), run by the AAMC, is the platform applicants use to build and submit their residency application — CV, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and program selections.

IMG applicants generally need current ECFMG certification (or to be on track to complete it) to participate in the Match. ECFMG also issues the token that activates your MyERAS account.

The Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) lets eligible unmatched or partially matched applicants apply to unfilled residency positions during Match Week.
